One of Toronto’s best kept secrets is Swagger Rite. Growing up on the Southside of Weston Road and Jane Street, Swagger Rite didn’t choose to lock in on music until around 2015, when he released “Six Side” with the help of RodZilla, whom also directed the music video for his latest single “Like That”.
Swagger spent the beginning of his budding career focusing on high energy, hyper-aggressive trap music, perfecting it on the release of his debut EP in November of 2019. In addition to the entrancing trap production and intense energy, the project also boasts features from BlocBoy JB, Yella Beezy, and Flipp Dinero.
So far in 2020, Swagger has released two separate singles and shows no sign of slowing down. His new direction proves to listners that Swagger is more than just the city’s “hardest rapper”. After learning about Swagger Rite through songs like “Drop Top” and Mosh Pit”, we are reintroduced, with “Like That”. “Like That” is a summer bop, guaranteed to hit under any circumstances. We’re hoping it’ll be safe to open up clubs soon, because this song deserves to be heard by the masses. Play it with the guys, share it with your girls; the catchy hook and nonchalant demeaner of Swagger Rite is infectious and guaranteed to be enjoyed by whoever listens to it.
For a more introspective side of Swagger Rite, you can also check out “Sticky”, which features Swagger singing not only about the hardships of his upbringing, but the difficulty of Toronto street-life as a whole.
