$VN is an up-and-coming musical duo out of Mississauga, Ontario. They have been on our radar for quite some time, after the two began releasing self-produced singles since 2018. Over the course of two years, $VN has built up the reputation within the city for their ability to blend multi-genre influenced production with silky smooth vocals.
Their latest release, “Took It Too Far” follows their 2020 vision to showcase their musical range. Arguably their most aggressive song to date, $VN describes falling in love with the instrumental’s sinister tone after receiving it from their good friend and collaborator Shubs.
“[The track] invoked a lot of pent-up anger and aggression in us. We got on the mic and let our emotions run free”, ½ of the duo, nyXsun, explains.
The song is dramatic, intense and oozes confidence. The heavy 808’s and mean synths brought out the best (or worst) in them, calling them to flow viciously about the hardships of trying to remain pure in a cold world.
$VN worked closely with Shubs to give the song its final touches, best displayed in its outro. The spectacle of an outro is perfect – layering distortion, grimey drum patterns and $VN’s reminder that they got their foot on the gas, reiterates the vibe of the song – powerful and necessary.
