There’s a moment in every artist’s journey when everything starts to click in terms of the overall direction, both artistically and character-wise. For Rekha Yasmin, that moment might just be now. With the release of her latest single, Visual, she is stepping into the spotlight with a sound that feels both familiar and brand new.
Visual, though it reminds us the dreamy vocals of The Weeknd or the raw vulnerability of Jhené Aiko and Kehlani, it paints a picture that is quite unique to Rekha; one that is moody yet confident, delicate but assertive, all while riding a beat very minimal but as effective. And this is just the beginning. With a lot of music and projects lined up for 2025, she does not fail to let us know what awaits us.
Calling Rekha an emerging artist will not do her justice as she has spent a lot of time previously shaping sounds behind the scenes; working as a songwriter, producer, and engineer.I think that’s what gives her a creative edge sonically; she not only recognizes the different layers that shape her sound but also has the ability to build those layers herself.
Rekha says her music is all about connection. She’s not interested in being another name in the Pop-R&B space but she wants to create moments that make people feel seen, understood, and less alone in their experiences:
““My music is a reflection of my inner dialogue; confessions from the emotional roller coaster of life; deep within the heart of a mid-twenty year old. Immersing one’s self in a sonic dream world that takes you anywhere, where being yourself means showing up as your highest imagined version, confident, loving, alluring and honest. Anything is possible, and I plan on going for what my heart desires and never looking back.”
Is it too soon to call her a rising star? Maybe. But some things just feel inevitable. Visual is the first step in what looks to be an exciting journey; one that fans of boundary-pushing R&B should keep a close ear on.
