Folk and soul music are growing in popularity. Hozier is the face of yearning, Noah Kahan’s storytelling shines through his lyrics, and Bon Iver’s distinctive voice fills every show in winter’s fan-edit videos.

A fourth name to add to the list of folk-soul artists to keep an ear out for is the up-and-coming, Rhyan Douglas.

Brampton-native, Rhyan Douglas, has been working non-stop on the upcoming release of his debut EP, Circles. At a young age, Douglas found his passion for singing, spending hours perfecting his vocals and joining groups such as his church choir. Catching the attention of prominent producers—akin to Olivia Rodrigo and Dan Nigro or Taylor Swift and Jack Antonoff—Douglas found his go-tos in Wondagurl and Eli Brown. Having produced songs with him in the past, the three are partnering up again for this 9-track EP. Prior to the EP release, Douglas released two tracks titled Young & Reckless and Last Page.

Douglas combines a mix of soul and folk music to create a distinctive sound that highlights his smooth vocals. Likened to similar artists such as Frank Ocean, Sam Smith, and Tyler The Creator, Rhyan Douglas wants to be a major name in the genre.

Douglas is perfect for those who want to be immersed in what they’re listening to. Accompanying his warm vocals, Douglas provides a strong visual element to his music, as shown in the official videos to singles Last Page and Conversations. Douglas’ talent is highlighted everywhere after opening on tour for 6LACK and landing a single on the NOW 89 compilation album.

Rhyan Douglas is set to become a major force in the folk-soul sphere. His debut EP, Circles, is coming this year!
