88GLAM is a rap duo on the come up, originating from the underground of Toronto. Derek Wise, now better known as GlamBoy, connected with 88Camino through an XO manager during his solo career. The formation of 88GLAM thrived on the combination of Wise’s homegrown Toronto raps and 88Camino’s alternative inspiration. 88GLAM comments on the authenticity and quality behind XO’s label that has supported them in isolating their sound. While their individual goals may differ, this pair is continuing to achieve their aspirations to define the Toronto rap scene. Since their mixtape release this past April, 88GLAM has been hard at work, releasing yet another mixtape in a few short months.
88GLAM2, released on November 16th , is the pair’s second mixtape. With most songs close to three minutes or under, the tracks are simple with the beats combining Camino’s melodies and Wise’s raps. BPM in the beginning is slower than the last mixtape, with more laid back vibes. 88Camino shows off his range in ‘Kawasaki’, with bars from Wise keeping the work hard, play hard attitude alive. NAV is brought in on ‘It’s A Flex’, seamlessly adding to the Toronto inspired sound they are dedicated to creating. The simple beats and the duo’s cohesion is attractive, though they’re still on their way to becoming household names. Overall 88GLAM’s efforts are paving a path for Toronto rappers, making a name for the underground rap scene.
