23 year-old New York native, Ice Spice has been making waves with her viral hits- showing us she’s no one hit wonder!
Rapper Ice Spice, born Isis Gaston first stepped onto the scene in 2021 after meeting producer RIOTUSA at SUNY Purchase where the two studied. The pair immediately hit it off and began making music together, as RIOTUSA has helped to produce all of Spice’s tracks thus far! With the release of her first two tracks “Bully Freestyle” and “No Clarity”- Gaston began to gain attention within the industry for her unique look and incredible musical talent. It wasn’t until her track “Munch (Feelin’ U)” blew up on TikTok that fans really began to know her name. Soon after the success of “Munch” Drake was heard playing the song on his Sirius XM station which massively helped kickstart Gaston and her career.
The fear of being a one hit wonder looms in any artist’s mind but Ice Spice has continually released hit after hit. After the success of “Munch”, Spice’s tracks “Bikini Bottom,” “In Ha Mood,” and “Boys a liar Pt.2” all went viral on TikTok as soon as they were released- proving to herself and the world her success with “Munch” was no mistake. Spice’s recent collaboration with artist PinkPantheress on “Boys a liar Pt. 2” received immediate praise as the two women are known for their upbeat, idyllic singing and lyricism- bringing an entirely new look and feel to the rap/pop industry. As the industry has been primarily male dominated; with the addition of Nicki Minaj, Doja Cat, and Megan Thee Stallion- Ice Spice has paved the way for a new generation of female rappers to take the reins and create an industry for themselves where they feel supported and encouraged to pursue their passions and take risks.
Ice Spice is surely one of the fastest growing artists we’ve seen today, as her songs have garnered a cult following as well as gaining attention from A listers Drake, Doja Cat, and Lil Nas X. Due to her rapidly growing success within the industry, Spice is in the making of becoming the next rap princess. Many artists struggle with the versatility of music and fashion but Ice Spice has found comfort in both- as she was seen front row at NYFW Dion Lee, Coach, Laquan Smith and Tommy Hilfiger shows. Her collaboration with artist Lil Tjay on her recent EP, “Like..?” has opened the doors to a hopeful design collab in the near future.
Having been constantly compared to Princess Diana in the media for her kind heart and generosity (as well as her infamous hair), it’s no surprise the first track on her EP is titled “Princess Diana.”
Ice Spice is unequivocally rap’s present day princess.
